About INS Khukri Memorial
This memorial on a seaside hill at Chakratirth remembers the Indian Navy frigate INS Khukri, sunk by a Pakistani submarine off Diu on 9 December 1971. Eighteen officers and 176 sailors died, including her captain, Mahendra Nath Mulla, who chose to go down with his ship. Opened in 1999, it holds a scale model of the ship in a glass enclosure.
