About Somnath Mandir
Somnath Temple stands on the Arabian Sea coast at Prabhas Patan and is revered as the first of Lord Shiva's twelve Jyotirlinga shrines. It was destroyed and rebuilt many times; the present temple, built in the Kailash Mahameru Prasad style, was consecrated in May 1951. The temple trust says an arrow pillar here points along an unbroken sea route to the South Pole.
